Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. Its roots lie in the traditions and ceremonies of the medieval stonemasons who built our cathedrals and castles. Some rituals are still celebrated today.
The Three Great Principles
For many years Freemasons have followed three great principles:
Brotherly Love - Every true Freemason will show tolerance and respect for the opinions of others and behave with kindness and understanding to his fellow creatures.
Relief - Freemasons are taught to practice charity and to care, not only for their own, but also for the community as a whole, both by charitable giving, and by voluntary efforts and works as individuals.
Truth - Freemasons strive for truth, requiring high moral standards and aiming to achieve them in their own lives.
Freemasons believe that these principles represent a way of achieving higher standards in life.
Our Core Values
Freemasonry has always been about making good men better. Freemasons use four important guiding principles to help define their path through life:
Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Charity
Integrity: Freemasons are focused on building themselves as people of integrity and membership provides the structure to help achieve that goal. We say what we mean and we keep our promises.
Friendship: Freemasonry affords members many opportunities to develop a wide circle of friends. Finding bonds with people who share common interests and meeting people from many different backgrounds provides the common foundation for friendships which will last for life.
Respect: Freemasonry brings people together irrespective of their race, religion or any other perceived differences that can divide us as a society.
Charity: Kindness and charitable giving are fundamental principles of Freemasonry and the organisation provides the structure for members to make valuable contributions to deserving causes and to their communities.

Freemasonry & How To Join
Freemasonry has a remarkable history dating back more than three centuries and is one of the world's oldest secular fraternities. We are a society of men concerned with upholding social and moral values and who believe in three great principles of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth and we aim to bring together men of goodwill, regardless of background and differences.
People might think that to become a Freemason is difficult. It is actually quite simple. The essential qualifications for admission is that you have a belief in a Supreme Being . . . we will explain more if you get in touch.
It is usual for candidates to be "mature men of 21 years and over", but in some circumstances candidates between the ages of 18 and 21 can be admitted.
